Introduction

Overview

The Ad Builder - Pushdown format provides advertisers with opportunity to own a unique above-the-fold execution. Pushdown is a type of expanding ad that pushes down the content of a webpage when the creative expands, moving the site out of the way to display the ad. This way, the creative is not displayed above the page content, not overlaid, and does not interfere with page content that the user will access.

The Ad Builder - Pushdown is the basic Ad Builder version of the HTML5 Pushdown. The workspace version is a separate custom format and has added functionality that can be found by referencing the table below. If interested please check the workspace's build guide.

Template Name Video Banner Dimension Default Panel Dimension
Pushdown 320x50 Video Yes 320x50 320x415
Pushdown 970x66 Video Yes 970x66 970x415

The ad loads in the collapsed state. The ad can be expanded by clicking the Expand button. From the expanded state, the user can either click the UserAction button, the ClickThrough button, or close the ad and return to the collapsed state. Clicking the UserAction button sends a custom interaction and is tracked in reports. Some pushdown templates contain a video player, which is setup to track video interactions.

Some publishers allow pushdown banners to expand automatically for a certain number of times in a given time period. For example, some publishers allow the pushdown to auto-expand once per day per unique user, while others may only allow one auto-expansion per campaign per unique user. Auto-expansion can be configured through platform frequency capping settings. Fore more details please check Setting Frequency capping section.

While the Ad Builder - Pushdown can be customized to any size, templates with common sizes are already provided. The following illustrations show the 320x50 with a video template. It includes includes a video, close button, user action button, and a clickthrough button:

Customizing the Ad Builder - Pushdown

You may remove or replace any existing component in the template with your own creative assets. However, consider the following:

  • Removing the Video: If you want to remove the video component, please make sure you go to the Actions & Animations for each button and remove Pause: video-container action from the Tap/Click event.
  • Changing the Close Button: With Ad Builder, you should be able to style your own Close button by using component Properties, but if you are removing the default close button and adding a close button, please make sure you go to the Actions & Animations and add the following action to the Tap/Click event.

Expandable – Collapse, and select a panel target (default or the other name if you changed the panel name).

  • Using Collapse: If your ad contains video, it is recommended to add the following action prior to the Collapse action so the video can be paused when the panel collapses. Normally we will also make the Collapse action start 200ms after the Pause action.

Video Action – Pause, and select a video target (video-container or the one you create).

Common Customizations

Setting Frequency capping

Note: Frequency capping is supported only by SAS platform and if used in MDX 2.0, panel will not expand with expand animation and instead just appear over the page content.

Frequency capping can be implemented in Pushdown format and it is combination of two settings. First one is implementing event in banner to fire expand panel with pushdown and second one is setting frequency capping in ad setting on platform. To set frequency capping

  1. Open "Master_Banner"
  2. Open "Actions & Animations" of "Master_Banner"
  3. Create "On Load" event
  4. Create new "Pushdown" action
  5. Select Panel name
  6. Set on Trigger to 100ms
  7. Set Animation direction from Top center.
  8. Set Duration to 1000ms
  9. Save the Ad

image6.png

Above setting will expand panel if frequency capping is satisfied. Next step is to set frequency capping in ad setting on platform. To set frequency capping

  1. Open Ad settings on Platform
  2. Go to "Creative Assets" section > "Panels" > "ADVANCED PANEL SETTINGS"
  3. Select "Overwrite Creative Settings: Always auto-expand" from "Auto-Expand" options
  4. Set "Panel Frequency" setting to "Unlimited" or to other setting as per your requirement
  5. Save the Ad and launch preview.

no changes will happen to eyeDiv (panel container) z-Index

mdIsDomainConfigEnabled

No

mdProgSettingsFolderPath

String

Location from which to load the programmatic settings files.

//services.serving-sys.com/programmatic/DomainList/

mdParentLevelsToResize

Integer

This variable is only used when the ad is serving a default image. When set to any value over 0, this number of publisher parent elements of our tag will be resized to the default image size, if they are smaller than the default image serving.

0

mdBackupImgPath String

Relative path to the backup image, if a custom image is desired. This allows a fallback experience to display an image that is not a 1x1 even though the tag is a 1x1 tag. For example, if this custom var were set to "images/300x250_Default.jpg," then a file would attempt to be loaded from the images folder. You must be sure this file exists in the workspace. When set to undefined, the normal 1x1 fallback occurs.

undefined
mdAutoRepositionInterval Number

Ad resize/reposition interval. 0 to turn off the interval. Ad attempts to resize itself every "n" milliseconds.  Even with this value set to 0, the ad will always attempt to resize itself upon browser resize, browser scroll, or orientation change.  This var simply adds an interval by which to attempt to resize/reposition also.
