Ad Carousel

This metric detects when the publisher rotates several ads, within the same placement, within a certain time frame. Ad Carousel detects two or more impressions from the same placement on the same page, in the same location on the page during the same user session (for example, with no user action like refresh) within 2.5 minutes.

This metric appears for In-Banner video ads.

Ad Stacking

Ad Stacking is a common fraud technique in which the publisher places multiple ads on top on each other in a single ad placement; only the top-most ad is viewable. Sizmek defines Ad Stacking when 100% of an ad is covered for at least one millisecond and is not 100% transparent. The platform detects Ad Stacking for display ads and In-Banner video ads; Ad Stacking information appears in verification reports.

Ad Starts

The number of times the user's environment (browser/player) loaded the ad, with a maximum of one ad start per impression.

Ad Starts is measured differently across different channels:

  • Image: Sizmek triggers the Ad Starts event when the image loads completely.
  • Flash: If the browser permits, Sizmek reports Ad Starts when the second frame is played, otherwise it reports Ad Starts as soon as the flash is played.
  • HTML5: Sizmek triggers the Ad Start event when the main iFrame loads completely.

This category appears as Ad Starts in Sizmek reports.

Blind Video Player

Blind Video Players detect pages that contain content video players. The URL for these pages have been masked or buried within iFrames, preventing visibility into the actual webpage where the video player appeared. In these cases, since the page URL could not be extracted, the Peer39 algorithm could not detect how the video actually appeared, and other video categories, like size or location, will not be available.

This metric can also be returned for VPAID impressions that are deemed In-Banner video.

Ghost Sites

The Ghost Sites category identifies suspected fraudulent (bot) traffic from sites that are entirely non-human. It is derived from a statistical algorithm that analyses traffic patterns of sites in real-time bidding (RTB) and flags suspiciously high traffic sites as bots, while combining information about the site volume, page structure, and content quality. Due to the nature of bot sites and the high frequency at which they appear, the algorithm is dynamic and is updated on the fly to help detect new Ghost Sites and maintain good coverage.

Viewable Impressions (IAB)

The number of viewable impressions based on IAB viewability thresholds. The dashboard also shows the percentage of viewable impressions. Percentage is calculated as for Viewability Rate (IAB). The IAB definition for viewable ads includes the following:

  • Viewable display ad: 50% of the ad is viewed for at least one second.
  • Viewable In-Stream ad: 50% of the ad is viewed for at least two seconds.

Wastage Impressions

Wastage Impressions is a unique metric that is enabled for an account. For this metric, you define a rule that detects impressions which meet conditions related to Viewability, Geo, Brand Safety, or Video Start; the new metric detects deduplicated impressions that fit your rule condition. You can select this metric from the General section in the Verification dashboard and see it in the Categories list in the Verification export report.

Zero Ads identifies sites that do not contain ad placements. Ad impressions that are served to these URLs are generated by ad injection, malware, or another fraudulent method. Examples of sites with Zero Ads may include government websites or subscription-based websites.
