Overview

You can use the Dynamic Creative feed for adding, editing, and deleting large numbers of versions. The Dynamic Creative feed supports XML, JSON, TSV, and CSV file types.

Feed Setup

DOC_DC_FeedSetup.png

The following table describes the fields for defining feed settings.

Field

Description

Feed URL

Location of the feed file. The following options are available:

  • Enter the URL of the feed file if the feed file is hosted an either a FTP server or HTTP/HTTPs location.

  • Browse and locate the feed file from the asset library if the feed file was uploaded to the asset library.

Feed Credentials (Optional)

Enables you to enter your username and password if the feed location requires authentication.

Unique Identifier

Marks the unique field per version. The identifier could be, for example, an ID field or text field, and is added as the versions external ID, and used for updating the version in a future feed fetch.

Note

Make sure that the Unique identifier field also exists in the feed file.

Fetch Feed Data

Defines the times and intervals of the feed update. You can select to import the feed just once (in order to create the versions), or import the feed every X hours (minimum number of hours is one hour).

When Versions are Missing from Feed

Determines the action for versions that exist in the platform but not in the feed file, for example, versions that were created manually from the platform or from the spreadsheet.

The following options are available:

  • Disable Version in Platform: The system disables any version that exists on the platform but not in the feed file, which enables you to use a feed that includes only the versions you want to run each hour. All other ad versions will not be served.

  • Do Nothing: The system ignores versions that do not exist in the feed file and does not update them, allowing the user to manage a subset of versions using for example, the spreadsheet, or maintaining an incremental feed file that includes only versions you want to update.

Disable Updated Versions

Disables any versions that were updated right after the data feed fetch. You can use this action when you want to review updated versions before approving them for serving.

Disable New Versions

Disables only new versions that were created by the data feed, and prevents these new versions from serving until you manually (either from the platform or spreadsheet) change their status back to active.

Data Matching

DOC_DC_DataMatching1.png

You use the Data Mapping tab to map the fields in the data feed to the fields in the platform. Any fields that you do not map will use the version's default values, for example, the default value for Status is Active.

You can perform the mapping using one of the following options:

  • Manually: Drag fields from the Unmapped Version Parameters column to the Version Parameter column. Use this method if the field names in the data feed differ from the field names in the platform. For example, the Version Name field in the platform might be called Name in the data feed file.

  • Automatically: Click Auto-Match by Name to automatically map all data feed fields that have the same name as platform fields. For example, if both the data feed and the platform use Status as a field name, the system will automatically map the data feed field to the version's field name in the platform.

Note

  • You can map retargeting activities either manually or automatically. Select the retargeting activity from the Unmatched Version Parameters column, and then either drag the field to the Version Parameter column or click Auto-Match by Name.

    DOC_DataMatching_Retargeting.png
  • Each retargeting value that is included in the feed is automatically created in the retargeting activity (if it ).

  • Sizmek Advertising Suite supports up to 200K retargeting values for each retargeting activity. If you want to define more than 200K retargeting values, it is a best practice to create a different retargeting activity for each categorization of your values. For example, you can define up to 200K values under a retargeting activity for Toys, and another 200K values under a different retargeting activity for Lawn Equipment.

Creating Rules to Filter the Data Feed File

Data feed files are often very large files that include multiple versions that belong to multiple ads. For example, a feed file could include versions for both summer sale versions, and the regular day-to-day versions. Creating a set of rules can help you manage and filter these large data feed files. For instance, you can create a rule to import a subset of feed versions, and you can create another rule that excludes a subset of feed versions. When the feed runs, the versions that match the selected conditions are created.

Guidelines and Example

Please note these important points when creating rules:

  • Rules can be based on any matched data field from the data feed file.

  • Multiple rules can be created for each ad. The relationship between two rules is an OR; if versions match any of the set of rules, they will be either included or excluded, depending on the condition.

The following table describes the available feed nodes and conditions that you can either include or exclude from your creative.

Feed Summary Email Notifications

Because the Dynamic Creative feed is usually set to run at scheduled times, you might not be in the Sizmek platform when your versions are created or updated. You can choose to receive an e-mail notification message when the feed is updated. The notification will include information such as whether the feed was successfully completed, and details regarding version data. You can also add additional contacts to the e-mail message.

Downloading and Exporting the Data Feed File

Downloading and exporting the data feed is a quick and easy way to create new versions of an ad, or use versions of an ad in other ads. Once you generate a feed file or template from existing ads, you receive an email with the file location. The file is available for 48 hours.

You can use one of the following options:

  • Download Feed Template: At the master ad level, this option enables you to download the structure of the ad's feed file. This is useful when you have one version of an ad and you want to create new versions of the ad, and then subscribe to the data feed file.

    DOC_Download_Feed_Template.png
  • Download Feed File: At the version level, this option enables you to download all or selected versions of the ad. This is useful when you want to use versions of an existing ad in other ads.
