Note

Note: The custom fields feature replaces the existing ad and placement classifications in the Sizmek MDX2.0 platform and extends classification capabilities. For more information, see Custom Fields.

Overview

When you create a custom field, you can apply the field to one or more of the following entities in your account:

  • Advertiser

  • Brand

  • Campaign

  • Ad

  • Placement

Basic field settings, for example, Field Name, apply to all entities. Other custom field settings can be set for each entity. For example, you could add a product name as a custom field for campaign and ad entities, and then choose to pass this value as a custom token on click-throughs and 3rd party events only on the ad level.

The custom fields that you create are automatically saved in your account in the list of custom fields. From this list, you can change settings for any custom field.

Rules and Guidelines

Please note these important points when creating custom fields:

  • 30 custom fields can be set up for each entity. A maximum of 150 custom fields can be set for each account.

  • Changes that you make to a custom field, either to a custom field name or to a custom field value, affect all entities that include the custom field.

  • Removing a custom field from an account removes the value from all entities that include the custom field.

  • There are no inheritance settings for custom fields.

Custom Field Types

You can select the following types of custom fields:

  • Text: Enter a field name and provide a brief description.

  • Choice List: Enter a field name and provide a brief description. Add or remove choice list values, and define whether other users can add new values to the choice list from an entity page.

Field Settings

CustomFieldSettings.png

The following table describes the field settings that are available when adding a custom field to an entity. You can add multiple entities; each entity can have its own set of values.

Field

Description

Display Settings

Enables you to select whether to display or hide the custom field on the entity page. If you select to display the custom field on the entity page, it will appear on the Custom Fields tab in the Settings section. The custom field can either be read-only or editable.

Read-only custom fields can be edited in the Sizmek API. Usually, you set a read-only field for metadata that is fed into the platform using the API, and should not be changed by users.

Use as Token

Enables you to use the custom field as a token on click-throughs and 3rd party events. The platform automatically generates a token for the custom field that you can copy and paste in a URL.

Use in Reporting

Enables you to use the custom field in Sizmek reporting. For more information, see About Analytics Reporting.

The following options are available:

  • As Entity Metadata.

  • As a New Level of Aggregation: Enables you to analyze reports according to the custom field category.

  • For Unique Calculations: Enables you to analyze unique metrics according to the custom field category.

Example

The following example shows how a custom field token is added:

<advertiser's site URL>?customvar=[%c_ad_customfield%]

and is replaced with these values before being sent to 3rd parties:

<advertiser's site URL>?customvar=productA
